SIPs vs Traditional Timber Framed builds.

SIPs are an intelligent solution for a sustainable future.

SIPs are the future of park and holiday home construction. Period. They offer so many advantages over traditional methods that it's hard to imagine why anyone would build any other way. And at Harbur, we're leading the industry in offering our customers high performance homes with unbeatable U-values, built with SIPs construction.
Why we choose SIPs over the traditional build.

Harbur U-Values are unbeatable compared to traditional Timber framed park home and holiday lodges.

What is a SIP Construction?

SIPs known as, Structural Insulated Panels are an advanced modern method of construction that offer excellent thermal and sound performance, structural strength.  They are used throughout the home walls, floor and roofs and are more advanced building methods than the traditional stick framing methods.  The SIP panel is made up of an insulation foam core sandwiched between two layers of oriented strand board (OSB). They are an efficient way of build made from renewable resources like wood fibre and plant-based resin, which makes our homes more sustainable.

There is a common misconception that SIPs structures are boxy and boring in fact it is quite the opposite. The design options are endless. The flexibility in design and ease of construction means there are no limitations to what can be achieved.

They have unbeatable insulation values

Factory-made SIPs panels are more accurate than on-site cut timber frames, this, along with the inherent airtightness, makes them very energy-efficient. The solid core helps to keep heat in during the winter and out during the summer, which means that your heating and cooling costs will be lower. And because they're so well-insulated, SIPs homes are much quieter than homes built with traditional methods.

Timescales on Build

SIPs are faster to install, they arrive pre-cut and to the buildings specific measurements and don’t require additional support because of the double bracing to the wall structures.  The result three times fast to build and less labour than a timber frame.

As the roof panels are structural there is no need for traditional roof trusses the panels can easily span and sit on a boxed-in timber beam.

Minimal Waste

Timber frame is measured and cut on-site in the factory where a lot of waste is produced whereas SIPs are made specific to measurements of each home and panels fit perfectly together. Making structurally insulated panels eco-friendlier and more cost effective and less labour-intensive method.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a sustainable and energy-efficient home, with U-values that out perform the traditional build method, then a park home or holiday lodge with a SIPs structure is your best bet. They may cost a little more upfront but in the long run, you will save money on your energy bills and have a higher-quality home.
